Sumadera Temple, the center of Kobo Daishi worship in Kobe City, holds “Daishi Ennichi” on the 20th and 21st of every month in commemoration of the day (March 21) when Kobo Daishi entered the temple. Admission is free.
On the day of the festival, events such as a special gyokai, sutra wood offering, and goma prayer will be held, and many fair stalls will line the approach to the temple and the temple grounds.
Known as “Odaishi-sama no Ennichi,” this event attracts many worshippers every time. Various fair stalls, including food booths, will be set up along the approach leading from Sanyo Suma Station to the temple and on the temple grounds.
Everyone is free to participate in the “sutra recitation and sermon meeting” held in the main hall, the “service” at the “Okuno-in” where Kobo Daishi is enshrined, and the “goma prayer” to pray for family safety and good health.
Special “Eko” (Aoba-den Hall) and “Kyogi Kuyo” (Sutra Wood Memorial Service), where ancestors and water children are offered, require an application at the reception desk. <To ensure the
safety of the festival, visitors are asked to wear masks and take other corona-preventive measures.
