Kobe City: Volunteers Wanted for Temporary Care of Dogs and Cats

Although the Animal Control Center transfers dogs and cats it receives to new owners, there is a limit to the number of dogs and cats it can protect and properly care for at its facilities.
For this reason, we are looking for “temporary care volunteers” to temporarily take care of dogs and cats at home and help them get used to a home environment.
The dogs and cats in our care will eventually be returned to the Animal Control Center and given to new owners.
In recent years, the number of dogs and cats in our care has been decreasing, and we have very few opportunities to ask for “temporary custody” of dogs and cats.

The main things we ask you to do

• (1) Daily care such as feeding, watering, and walking (dogs only)
• (2) Health observation
• (3) Interaction and play with the dogs to familiarize them with the home environment.

The Center will provide necessary items (food, containers, pet sheets, cages, etc.).

Requirements for Volunteers

（Please check the conditions from (1) to (9) above and submit a Temporary Care Volunteer Application Form to the Animal Control Center.

• (1) The house must be a pet-friendly residence (pets are not allowed).
• (2) If you already own a dog or cat, it must be registered and properly vaccinated against rabies (dogs only), fleas, ticks and filaria.
• (3) You must take care of and raise the dog or cat yourself (you cannot leave the dog or cat with a third party).
• (4) The applicant must be able to transport the dog or cat to and from the animal control center by car or other means.
• (5) Must be able to bring the dog or cat to the Animal Control Center for medication and health observation as needed.
• (6) Have the consent of all family members who live with the dog/cat in the home when applying to become a temporary care volunteer.
• (7) The dog or cat must be returned to the Animal Control Center. (The volunteer cannot give the dog or cat directly to the new owner.)
• (8) Agree to a home visit survey prior to the start of volunteer work.
• (9) If you have previously received or temporarily kept an animal from Kobe City, you must comply with the pledges.
