The “Higashinada Karuta” (1,100 yen, tax included), which features famous places, great people, and specialties of Higashinada Ward, is on sale at Metro Bookstore Kobe Mikage until January 31.
44 works selected from 4443 entries from elementary school students in the ward.
Higashi Nada Karuta” was created to commemorate the 70th anniversary of Higashinada Ward’s establishment last year. The cards are read by elementary school students in the ward, and the picture cards are drawn by Hideaki Yamazaki, an illustrator well known for his “Waketon” series, based on ideas from high school students in the ward.
The cards can be downloaded from the Kobe City website, but in response to requests to sell them, they will be available for a limited time from December 10 of this year through January 31 of next year. The number of copies sold will be approximately 100, and sales will end when they run out.
In addition, the “1st New Year Higashinada Karuta Tournament” will be held at Mikage Public Hall (Higashinada Ward, Kobe City) on January 15 next year as a first attempt. Teams of 1st to 3rd graders who applied in advance will compete for prizes in a heated competition.
