Kobe City Suma Marine Aquarium (Suma-ku, Kobe) will hold the “Dissecting a New Book in Masaba” at the Suma Aquarium on February 26, 2012. Participation is by advance reservation and lottery. Applications are accepted until February 17.
This is a hands-on event in which participants will dissect “masaba” (mackerel), a familiar fish on the dinner table, and learn about the location of internal organs and their roles.
Mackerel, which is delicious grilled with salt or simmered in miso, is a very familiar food for Japanese people and could be called “soul food.
In this event, participants will carefully observe and dissect masaba using scissors and tweezers!
Participants will also make sketches of the mackerel they observed and dissected, and create their own personal anatomical book, “Masaba no Kaitai Shinsho (New Book of Dissection of Masaba). You can take the completed book home with you. <
The importance of “food education” is being talked about these days, and I feel that actually dissecting a real fish will be more beneficial than listening to a story 10 times.
