Motomachi Cinema (Chuo-ku, Kobe) will hold a special screening “SILENT FILM LIVE #20” from July 22 to 28.
For the first 30 to 40 years after the birth of movies in 1895, there was no technology to add sound to film, and movies were enjoyed with live music playing next to the screen. SILENT FILM LIVE” is a screening that allows the audience to experience silent films in the style of those days.
All screenings include live accompaniment on an upright piano and an after talk. With Ryo Torikai, who specializes in silent film accompaniment, on the piano, you can enjoy the world of various films.
This year, three films will be screened: “Keaton’s Great Train Chase,” a railroad action comedy that has shone in film history; “The Three Felons,” a masterpiece of western cinema by master filmmaker John Ford; and “The Cat and the Canary,” a mysterious monster lurking in an eerie house… a combination of horror, mystery and comedy.
<A word from the reporter:
These masterpieces are shown in the style of the era in which they were created. It will be a refreshingly different film experience.
