On November 12, “Reading for Doggies” will be held at “Kodomo Hon no Mori Kobe” in Chuo Ward, Kobe City! Doggy Book Reading Session” will be held at “Kodomo Hon no Mori Kobe” in Chuo Ward, Kobe City on November 12. Advance registration is required.
Since its opening in October 2021, Kobe Animal Coexistence Center, located in Shiawase-no-mura in Kita-ku, has been holding regular “Wan-chan Reading Session,” an animal therapy program in which children can read books to dogs while interacting with them. This time, the event will be held at the same facility as an on-site event.
It is said that reading books to dogs improves children’s motivation to read and their reading ability, as well as their sense of self-esteem, and the purpose is to encourage their mental growth through their interaction with dogs. Originally started in libraries in the U.S., this event is now held in libraries and schools around the world, but this is the first time it has been held at a library in Kobe City.
On the day of the event, people are asked to bring their favorite picture books (or choose from a selection at the library) and read them to the reading support dogs. The person in charge says, “This is the first doggy reading event to be held away from the Kobe Animal Symbiosis Center. Please take this opportunity to read your favorite book to your dog at Kodomo Hon no Mori Kobe.

It sounds very peaceful to read a book to a dog. I would love to see how the dog quietly watches you as you try your best to read a book.
