Motomachi Cinema (Chuo-ku, Kobe) will hold a special screening “Silent Film Live #21” from November 4 to 10.
In the first 30 to 40 years after the birth of movies in 1895, there was no technology to add sound to film, and movies were enjoyed with live music playing next to the screen. SILENT FILM LIVE” is a screening event that allows the audience to experience silent films in the style of those days.
This year’s 21st edition will feature three films: “Vampire Nosferatu,” a German Dracula film depicting the terror of vampires shrouded in darkness; “Wildcat Luschka,” a hilarious comedy about a female pirate who falls for the man she attacks; and “Body and Demons,” a romantic film by legendary actress Greta Garbo that has become one of her most popular works.
All screenings will be accompanied by live upright piano accompaniment and an after-talk. Ryo Torikai, who specializes in silent film accompaniment, will play the piano for the audience to enjoy the world of various films.
The person in charge says, “This is an ‘old’ way of watching movies, but it is being enjoyed as a ‘new’ style by today’s customers. We are especially happy to see an increasing number of repeat customers, especially students and younger generations, who enjoy the “live” experience! Please come and experience the power of a live piano! Please come and experience the power of a live piano!

It is also perfect for those who want to spend a slightly different holiday than usual! I think you can enjoy it alone or with your friends or loved ones.
