Geishun,” an event to experience the traditional Japanese New Year, will be held at Kobe City Suma Rikyu Park (Suma Ward, Kobe City) for three days from January 6 to 8. The park will open on January 5.
During the event, visitors can enjoy traditional New Year’s games such as Koma-zushi (top spinning), Hane-tsuki (shuttlecock), and Fuku-asobi (happy laugh), and on January 7, there will be a Japanese drum performance to get into the New Year’s spirit. After the performance, visitors can try their hand at drumming. This year, there will be no jumbo pine, bamboo, and plum trees on display, as is customary.
The park also features a fountain plaza with a main waterfall, cascading streams, rhythmic small fountains in the canals, and a dynamic large fountain that shoots high into the sky, a field athletic “Children’s Forest,” based on “Treasure Island” in the maritime adventure story by Stevenson, and a camellia garden with early and late camellia blooming in the spring. The “Children’s Forest,” a field athletic facility based on “Treasure Island” by Stevenson, and the Camellia Garden, where camellias from early to late bloom one after the other are in full bloom.
