From early February to mid-March, ume (Japanese apricot) blossoms bloom one after another at Suma Rikyu Park in Kobe City’s Suma Ward, where an event will be held to coincide with the best time to view them.
The park has a vast ume (plum) garden of about 1,500 square meters, where 160 plum trees of about 25 varieties will be in full bloom for about a month, ranging from early-blooming Ohirai and Tamabotan to late-blooming Bungo.
On February 10, an ume-viewing tea ceremony will be held in a Japanese-style room in the garden, and from February 2 to March 20, the “Spring Sweetheart Exhibition” will be held. From February 2 to March 20, visitors can view seasonal flowers such as primulas, anemones, and ranunculus.
The park also features a dynamic large fountain that shoots high into the sky, a fountain plaza where visitors can enjoy the flow of water, and the “Field Athletic – Children’s Forest Adventure Course,” a series of 28 pieces of playground equipment. The park is sure to be a relaxing place for visitors to enjoy the early hints of spring.
<A word from the reporter:
You can spend the whole day here with a packed lunch, enjoying the plum blossoms in full bloom, and letting the children move and play to their heart’s content.
