A talk event to commemorate the publication of a book on career breaks, “The Career Break Option for Work Moyamoya” (KADOKAWA), will be held on February 17 at Junkudo Shoten Sannomiya Store (1 Sannomiya-cho, Chuo-ku, Kobe City).
Speakers at the commemorative talk event are Takahiro Kitano and Jun Matsumura.
The term “career break” is used to describe a period of time during which a person is out of work, such as when a person temporarily leaves his or her job or takes a leave of absence. In Europe, this concept has already taken root in society. In order to spread this concept to Japan, Takahiro Kitano interviewed 500 people who had left their jobs, and published the book on January 24 as Japan’s first monograph on career breaks. The event was organized by Osamu Horiuchi, manager of Junkudo’s Sannomiya store, who approached Mr. Kitano, who lives in Kobe, to commemorate the publication.
Mr. Kitano says, “Instead of having only the first option of working and the second option of changing one’s place of work (i.e., changing jobs), having the third option of ‘temporarily leaving one’s place of work’ may help one to regain one’s energy and sensitivity. We hope that this event will provide an opportunity for those who feel uncomfortable about working to broaden their perspectives.
Sociologist Jun Matsumura, an advisor for regional revitalization in Kobe City and lecturer at Kwansei Gakuin University and Doshisha University, will also be a guest speaker at the event, and will speak on the topic “Where do adults put their dreams? ~A discussion will be held on the topic of “Where do adults put their dreams?
The event will be held from 4:00 pm to 5:30 pm. Admission is ¥1,000 for adults and ¥500 for students. Registration is available on the event page and in stores.
