The Hyogo Prefectural Museum of Art (Chuo-ku, Kobe) will hold a large-scale retrospective exhibition “Yoshikazu Yasuhiko, the Painter” from June 8 to September 1.
The year 2024 marks the 45th anniversary of the broadcast of “Mobile Suit Gundam” and a memorial year for Yoshikazu Yasuhiko, who will celebrate his 77th birthday. Although there have been previous solo exhibitions of Yoshikazu Yasuhiko focusing on specific genres such as anime and manga, this exhibition is the first attempt to explore the common theme of his works in a variety of fields, from his childhood and adolescence to his current creations.

Yoshikazu Yasuhiko is a character designer and animation director for “Mobile Suit Gundam” and a manga artist. The exhibition will feature approximately 1,400 items that trace the path of Yoshikazu Yasuhiko’s creative activities from his childhood to the present. Many of them, such as the rough draft of the poster for “Mobile Suit Gundam” (theater version), will be exhibited for the first time at this exhibition.

In addition to materials related to animation, the exhibition will also provide a fuller picture of Yoshikazu Yasuhiko’s creative activities by displaying manga manuscripts and other materials covering ancient and modern Japanese history, which could be called his life’s work. In addition, there will be newly drawn illustrations by Yoshikazu Yasuhiko on display at the exhibition.
