Higashinada Ward in Kobe City designates the spring festival period as “Higashinada Danjiri Week,” during which a Danjiri parade is held in each district.
Danjiri in Higashinada Ward is a traditional festival that is said to have been widely popular in the old days as “Nada no Danjiri Matsuri. The Kishiwada Danjiri Festival in Osaka is well-known for its Danjiri, but in contrast to the Kishiwada Danjiri, which “yanks” the streets with great force, the Higashinada Danjiri “pulls” the streets relatively slowly, much like the Gion Festival. The Higashi Nada Danjiri is characterized by its “slow” movement through the city, like the Gion Festival.
The Danjiri parade, a well-known spring festival in Higashinada Ward, is held with the aim of promoting regional exchange and passing on traditional culture. Among them, four of them, the “Danjiri of Yumigemba Shrine,” “Danjiri of Tomei Hachiman Shrine,” “Danjiri of Hokura Shrine,” and “Danjiri of Hon-Sumiyoshi Shrine,” have been recognized as city-registered intangible folk cultural assets.
During “Higashinada Danjiri Week,” a total of 32 gorgeous and gorgeous danjiri floats will parade around the city with powerful shouts. Each of the five districts (Mikage, Sumiyoshi, Motoyama, Uozaki, and Honjo), which are based on former towns and villages, will hold a festival to pray for good health and a bountiful harvest.
