Bando Kobe Science Museum for Youth (Chuo Ward, Kobe City) will hold “Children’s Earth Photography Project in Hyogo” on May 12 and June 9 as a 40th anniversary project. The project is open to third-grade elementary school students in Kobe City, and applications must be submitted online by April 23 to participate (if there are too many applicants, a drawing will be held to determine the winners).
The “Children’s Earth Photography Project,” which started in Saga Prefecture in October 2023, has been approved by the Japan Planetarium Association (JPA) as an official project for the planetarium’s 100th anniversary. It is an educational event in which children photograph their own living area from space using the satellite “EYE” in order to familiarize them with space.
The event will be held on the second Sunday of May and June in two sessions. On the first day, a study session to learn about space will be held, followed by a workshop to actually use the satellite simulator “EYE Connect” to practice shooting, take mock photos of countries and places of interest they would like to visit, and give instructions for reserved shooting.
On the second day, participants can experience firsthand the viewpoint from space while viewing together in the planetarium the photos of the Earth taken and sent by the satellite on the date and time reserved in the previous session.
The person in charge of the event said, “It is not often that we can give instructions to a satellite by ourselves, so please don’t miss this opportunity! We are looking forward to your participation.
<A word from the reporter>
I feel the romance of space at this event where visitors can see the Earth seen from a satellite on a large screen. This event is limited to third grade elementary school students, so please encourage your children to participate.
