The 3rd “Volkafé Coffee Expo” will be held from May 10 to 12 at the Create Kobe (Chuo Ward, Kobe City) 1st floor hall and an open space outside in the Old Settlement area of Sannomiya.
The event, organized by Swiss-based coffee beans trader Volkafé, will be held for the first time in 2019, the 100th anniversary of the company’s entry into the Japanese market. Various imported coffees are offered to visitors to convey the appeal of coffee.
Although the event was suspended due to the Corona Disaster, the second “Volcafé Coffee Expo – 17 SDCs” was held in October 2022, with the theme of the relationship between coffee and the SDGs, and coffee roasted and brewed by members of the coffee club of university students from all over Japan The coffee roasted and brewed by the members was served to university student coffee clubs from all over Japan.
At this year’s expo, university student coffee clubs from Kansai, Kanto, and Kyushu participated in roasting and brewing. Visitors can sample 11 coffees selected from all over the world, which reflect the climate and natural features of each region.
At the venue, in addition to coffee tasting (first cup 300 yen, second and subsequent cups 250 yen *giveaway depending on the number of cups) and sales at each booth, sweets such as baked goods that go well with coffee and coffee goods from Volcafé will also be available. In addition, visitors who buy coffee can take a free seminar on coffee given by Volkafé employees (limited to those who buy coffee, first-come, first-served).
Coffee is a drink that is produced in various countries around the world and has the power to serve as a bridge to convey the local climate and culture to people in the consuming country. We hope that this event will also provide an opportunity for interaction between the students who brew and serve the coffee they are responsible for at each booth and the visitors, as well as between students from various regions,” commented the person in charge of the event.
<A word from the reporter:
The “C” in “SDCs” was coined from the first letters of the words “Coffee” and “College,” and is said to be the perfect word for this event. As someone who does not know much about coffee and beans, I would like to learn from the students and become an adult who knows the difference between coffee and beans.
