Konan University (8 Okamoto, Higashinada-ku, Kobe) is currently accepting applications for its “Social Business Entrepreneur Development Program.
Chihoko Komatsu, a first-year student who runs the “Oyasai Market” on Rokko Island.
This is the third term of the program, which started in 2022. The program will run for one year starting September 17, with workshops held every other Saturday in the first and second halves of the year. Those who wish to participate can also attend weekday lectures with students. In addition to providing a dedicated coworking space, students can use the library, training room, and other on-campus facilities.
Chihoko Komatsu, a housewife who completed the program as a first-year student, currently operates a vegetable sales business called “Oyasai Ichiba” on Rokko Island. She started her business while raising a toddler and provides a place for communication among mothers who tend to be isolated in their child-rearing activities. Ms. Komatsu says, “I met like-minded people at university, which gave me the confidence to start my own business. I recommend this program to anyone who is hesitant to take the first step.
Professor Noriko Ishikawa of the university’s Faculty of Economics, who also serves as coordinator, said, “Business is essentially warm and considerate of others. I would like to help people feel more at ease in taking action. She also hopes that “by connecting people with diverse specialties, we can create new value.
The number of participants is limited to 20. There is no examination or enrollment fee. Applicants must have graduated from high school or be recognized as having equivalent or higher academic ability. Applications will be accepted until June 28.
