The Koiso Memorial Museum of Art, Kobe (Higashinada-ku, Kobe), which had been temporarily closed since April 1, 2024 for museum maintenance, reopened on July 13. The first exhibition after the reopening will be “<Special Exhibition> A Journey of Picture Books: Grimm, Folktales of the World, Artists Related to the Museum, and Kobe’s Publishing Culture,” which will be held until September 23.
This exhibition of original picture book illustrations features 220 works and materials by 33 artists, including those living in Hyogo Prefecture. The exhibition is designed to be enjoyed by people of all ages and to provide opportunities to encounter new discoveries.
During the exhibition period, curators will give explanatory talks and information staff will explain about the atelier (no registration required, free of charge).
Prior to the reopening, a special event titled “Operation Bijyutsukan” will be held to give visitors a sneak preview and workshops. Admission is free for all families with children of junior high school age and under.
Strollers are also allowed, and the renovated nursing room is open for use. The “Ryohei Koiso Works I” exhibition, featuring works by Ryohei Koiso from the museum’s collection, is also being held at the same time.
<A word from the reporter:
