A workshop event “Beach Eco-Craft” will be held at “Nagata Bunka Hall” (Nagata Ward, Kobe City) and “Suma Seaside Park” (Suma Ward, Kobe City). The event will be held on August 3 in Nagata-ku and September 21 in Suma-ku, and is now accepting applications for participation.
Nagata-ku, Kobe is the birthplace of “flip-flops,” and since August 3 is “flip-flop day,” the event was planned in the hope that children will learn about Nagata-ku, the birthplace of flip-flops, and that this will lead to an increase in civic pride and interest in the SDGs.
At the event, participants made original key chains out of flip-flop waste, decorated with marine debris in the shape of a turtle motif! In addition, participants can learn about the history of flip-flops and marine debris.
Participants will also receive a pair of flip flops as a gift.
The person in charge of the event says, “We want people to learn about the local community and the environment while having fun. We want people to take home the key chains they made at the workshop and tell their family and friends about the information they learned at this event. They are also perfect for summer vacation homework.
<A word from the reporter>
I am curious to see what kind of key chains can be made from the flip-flop waste! I’m sure I’ll want to wear the flip flops I get and go out to the beach.
