The 32nd Rokko City Marathon will be held on Rokko Island in Higashinada Ward, Kobe City. Registration for the marathon, which is open to a wide range of participants from elementary school students to senior citizens and parent-child pairs, began on August 30.
The marathon is a family marathon that started in 1990, soon after the opening of Rokko Island. There are five divisions, ranging from a 1.2-km race for first- and second-graders and their parents to a 10-km race for the general public, with many runners from the Kansai region and other parts of Japan participating every year.
This year, the event will be held for the first time in two years since it was suspended last year due to large-scale construction work on the island, and will be held as a special event to mark the 30th anniversary of the Great Hanshin-Awaji Earthquake.

The grass plaza on the north side of Rokko Island High School will be used as a base for runners to warm up, etc., and there will also be special exhibits on the earthquake disaster and booths by sponsors to provide highlights for non-runners as well.

Yuriko Kobayashi, a top athlete who has competed in the Olympics, will be the event ambassador, and INAC Kobe, a women’s soccer team based on Rokko Island, will provide special cooperation to liven up the event.
