The “World Children’s Book Exhibition” will be held from November 3 to 16 at the Kobe City Naya Library (4th floor of the Daimaru Suma Store) in Suma Ward, Kobe City.
The event will be held under the joint sponsorship of Kobe City University of Foreign Studies, Kobe City Naya Library, and Kakehashi Publishing LLC. With the aim of deepening international understanding through children’s books from around the world, “International Andersen Prize-winning books,” which are called “little Nobel Prizes,” and “International Board on Books for Children (IBBY) Honor List books” will be on display.
Approximately 180 picture books from 50 countries will be on display, including “Sen” and “Nami,” as well as a group of works by Susie Lee, the 2022 International Andersen Award for Artists, and Marie-Aude Muraille, the 2022 International Andersen Award for Artists. The works are actually available for visitors to pick up and read.
On November 4, Junko Fujiwara (Associate Professor, Department of Russian Studies, Kobe City University of Foreign Studies, Representative of Kakehashi Publishing), who has been conducting research on Russia and translating and publishing picture books, will give a lecture to deepen international understanding through Russian picture books.
(
On the same day, Junko Fujiwara and students of Kobe City University of Foreign Studies will read picture books to the audience in bilingual Japanese and foreign languages. (Reservations not required, first 20 people for each session)
<Organizer’s Comments>
We believe it is very significant to hold this event in the midst of the recent war in Ukraine and other ongoing wars in various parts of the world. We hope that those who are interested in picture books from around the world and those who wish to deepen their international understanding will feel free to come to this event.

Picture books from overseas are a little different from those from Japan in terms of content and illustrations, and they have a wonderful quality that not only children but also adults are fascinated by!
