NHK Morning Drama “Omusubi” – Introducing Kobe’s filming locations – vol.4 Nada Chuo-suji Shoten

NHK’s TV drama series “Omusubi,” which began airing on September 30, 2024, tells the story of the main character Yui Yoneda (played by Kanna Hashimoto) and her family, who experienced the earthquake and tsunami before January 17, 2025, which marks the 30th anniversary of the Great Hanshin-Awaji Earthquake.

The story moved to Kobe in the 8th week “Sayonara Itoshima Tadaima Kobe” which started on November 18, and Kiss PRESS will visit “locations in Kobe” that appeared in the story of “Omusubi”. This time we went to “Nada Chuo-suji Shopping Street” in Nada Ward, which appeared in “TADAIMA KOBE” (I’m home, Kobe) in Week 8.

Nada Chuo-suji Shopping Street

Nada Chuo-suji Shopping Arcade” is a shopping arcade that was built after the earthquake. The scene was filmed when Yotsugi, Yui’s boyfriend, visits her back in Kobe and greets her father, Seito, saying, “I am going out with you on the premise of marriage.

Yotsugi’s and Seito’s lines and reactions reveal their respective personalities so strongly that the author couldn’t help but laugh. At first glance, they do not seem to get along with each other, but I have a feeling that if there is a chance, they will become good friends at once, so I expect that as the story progresses, there will be scenes where they will be taken aback by Yui.

Walking through the arcade, I found the “Nakajima Futon Shop” that was shown on the screen.

A little south of the futon shop is the 100-yen store Mabuya, which appeared as a glasses shop in the movie! The design of the signboard and the atmosphere of the store are very nice, and it is my personal favorite location.

Nada Chuo-suji Shopping Street has many stores selling daily necessities, and I felt that it is an “active shopping street” that is indispensable for local residents. Okonomiyaki shops and coffee shops are also open, so you can enjoy lunch or coffee while visiting the filming location.

The scene where Ayumi shouts “I’m back” in front of the railroad crossing was filmed.

Incidentally, at the end of the exit on the north side of the arcade is the Hankyu train crossing, where the scene where Ayumi (Riisa Naka), Yui’s older sister, returns to Kobe was filmed.
