[Image] Kobe Fashion Museum Special Exhibition “Fashion Photographs Speak for Themselves

From November 23 to January 26, 2025, the Kobe Fashion Museum in Rokko Island (Higashinada Ward, Kobe City) will hold a special exhibition titled “Fashion Photography Tells the Story of Mode: The Relationship between Photography and Dress”.

In the 20th century, photography took on the role of conveying fashion trends, and fashion photography evolved in its own unique way. From its dawn to its golden age, contemporary photographers have pursued a wide variety of beauty.

The exhibition features 200 works by about 70 photographers and 40 dresses from the collection of the Kobe Fashion Museum, and looks back on the history of fashion photography.

Visitors can learn about the origins of fashion photography, rare portraits of top designers, Japanese photographers and supermodels that reflected the times, and more through these valuable materials.

The museum is also concurrently holding the “Glass Prayer” exhibition, a project to support the reconstruction of the Noto Peninsula Earthquake in the 30th year after the Great Hanshin-Awaji Earthquake.

The Noto Peninsula Glass Art Museum in Ishikawa, which was severely damaged by the Noto Peninsula Earthquake on January 1, 2024, and is still closed, will exhibit 36 precious glass works that withstood the earthquake and other related items, and will also introduce its costume collection.

This exhibition looks back on the close history of fashion and photography with photographic materials and dresses. The exhibition will feature works by famous designers of popular brands, as well as photographs by Man Ray, Robert Mapplethorpe, Kishin Shinoyama, Nobuyoshi Araki, and many other famous photographers, making it a must-see for fashion lovers and photography enthusiasts alike!
