Popular children’s book by the author of “Obake Zukan” to be turned into a play at Kobe Bunka Hall

On January 15, 2023, “Penguin Tankentai” by Puppet Theater Clarte will be performed at Kobe Bunka Hall (Kobe City). Tickets will be available from November 30 through the company’s official website, by phone or by registration form.

This is a stage adaptation of a popular children’s book by the professional puppet theater company Clarte, which has been actively touring elementary schools and performing for young children in the hope that children will be exposed to live performing arts and develop a rich sensibility.
The performance will be a puppet play based on the children’s book by picture book author Hiroshi Saito, arranged by Clarte. The original work started in 1991 and has been loved by many children as a long-time bestseller with 11 titles and a total of more than 300,000 copies sold.

Penguins in the Antarctic set out on an expedition in a canoe to investigate the mysteries of the earth. They arrive at a green island. They encounter lions, pythons, crocodiles, and other animals they have never seen before. Then, they climb a volcano deep in the jungle…” is the synopsis. The penguins will have an energetic adventure!
All seats are reserved, and tickets are ¥2,900 per person in advance, with free admission for children under 2 years old who sit on their knees.
Stage sign language interpretation will be provided for this performance. ＜
Many of you may know Hiroshi Saito from his works such as “Rudolph and Yippattena,” which has been made into an animated film, and the children’s story “Gakko no Obake Zukan (The School’s Ghost Storybook ).
The “Penguin Tankentai” to be performed at this year’s festival is another enjoyable story that is sure to bring a smile to your face, just like Mr. Saito.

appearance of penguins and other cute animals will surely soothe the hearts of not only children but also their parents.
