The 52nd Kutsukko Festival in Tetsujin Hiroba will be held on December 4 at Tetsujin Hiroba in Wakamatsu Park, Nagata-ku, Kobe. Admission is free.
This shoe festival has been held regularly in June and December every year, but in the past few years it has been cancelled or admission has been restricted due to preventive measures against new coronavirus infection. This year, the festival will be held as usual for the first time in many years, and about 30 companies, mainly local manufacturers, will gather at the foot of the giant monument of “Tetsujin 28-go,” which stands 18 meters high when standing upright. A wide variety of shoes will be on sale at reasonable prices.
It was around 1952 that “chemical shoes,” developed from vinyl chloride, were born in Nagata, Kobe. Since then, Kobe has developed into a major production center with a concentration of shoe manufacturers.
The “Kutsukko Festival” is a popular event hosted by the Japan Chemical Shoes Industrial Association in Nagata Ward. This year’s event will again feature a variety of women’s shoes, including pumps, loafers, and boots, sold at lower prices than the market, with some booths offering time sales after lunchtime.
The cooperative says, “We have prepared a wide variety of shoes, so please enjoy the event as if you were treasure hunting. This is a rare chance to buy quality products directly from the makers! This is a rare chance to buy quality products directly from the makers. <You never
know if a pair of shoes will really fit you until you actually see them.
While browsing through the wide variety of products lined up, it would be nice to get your own pair at a “good price” (laughs)
