The first sale of “Fukuju New Year’s Day Celebration Sake” will be held at Kobe Shu-shin-kan (Higashinada-ku, Kobe) on January 1, 2023. This was an annual New Year’s good luck event, but has been cancelled due to measures to prevent new-type coronavirus infection.
New Year’s Day Celebration Sake” is an auspicious sake that is bottled from freshly squeezed new sake at the end of the year and prayed for by the local deity Ubusunagami, Tomei Hachiman Shrine.
Since its establishment in 1751, “Kobe Shu-shin-kan” has won many awards at sake competitions held in Japan and abroad. In October 2022, the company released “Fukuju Junmai-shu Eco Zero,” the world’s first sake with zero carbon dioxide (CO₂) emissions in the sake making process. The company’s efforts are also attracting widespread attention.
On the day of the festival, a kotsuzumi (small tabor) drumming ceremony is scheduled to be held at the Nagayamon square, and the sound of the tabor will echo in the fresh air of New Year’s Day.
The museum says, “New Year’s Day Celebration Sake,” which is freshly squeezed new sake that has been prayed for at Tomei Hachiman Shrine, is available only on New Year’s Day. The New Year’s Day Celebration Sake” is only available on New Year’s Day. “We celebrate the New Year with a festive chant and the first beating of the kotsuzumi drums,” comments the museum. <I
