The 19th Forest Botanical Garden Tondoyaki will be held on January 15 at the Kobe City Forest Botanical Garden in Kobe City’s Kita Ward. Admission and parking are free on the day of the event.
This event is held to repose the souls of the victims of the Great Hanshin-Awaji Earthquake and other natural disasters, pray for their safety and health, and burn New Year’s decorations to pray for good health, safety in the home, and good health throughout the year.
The flame of the Tondoyaki will be lit from the “1.17 Lamp of Hope” that will be kept burning in Higashi Yuenchi.
On the day of the festival, registration for the first calligraphy and New Year’s decorations will begin at 9:30 a.m.. Only combustible items such as shimenawa ropes and pine decorations will be accepted, so please remove any noncombustible items. Those who wish to take the ashes home must bring their own containers.
In addition, the Yamada Branch of the North Fire Brigade will gather to demonstrate water spraying and provide a ride in a fire truck.
To prevent the spread of the new coronavirus, there will be no free tonjiru (pork miso soup), no food or drink for sale, and no writing at the beginning of the festival this year. <The
