On February 18, “Kurabiraki 2023,” a sake tasting event, will be held at Kikumasamune’s Kahokura and Kikumasamune Sake Brewery Memorial Museum (Higashinada-ku, Kobe). Admission is free.
This is a popular event by Kiku-Masamune, which was founded in 1659 (Manji 2) and has a history of over 360 years. Visitors can enjoy free tastings of freshly squeezed seasonal sake brewed using the traditional Tamba Toji technique of “kimoto-zukuri,” as well as a paid tasting corner where they can compare four types of sake, including “Hyakumoku,” the company’s first new brand in 130 years, which was launched in 2016 and has attracted a great deal of attention. This year, the company will sell the popular “goodie bags” that have been popular in previous years.
This year, there will be no sales of the popular annual grab bags, but there will be tours of the seasonal brewery “Kaho Goban Kura,” a tour of the Barrel Sake Meister Factory, a demonstration of the Komomaki process and sake brewing songs on the outdoor stage, and a grand celebration of the completion of the new sake.
At the gourmet booth, visitors will be able to enjoy “Freshly Saved! Sushi and sashimi of fresh raw tuna, warming yudofu (boiled tofu), and other dishes that go well with sake, as well as a wide variety of kasuzu (sake lees) soup with various ingredients. The company says, “This is the first time in three years that we have opened the brewery! We are looking forward to seeing you all there! We look forward to seeing you there! <A word from the reporter:
The taste of sake at a sake brewery is exceptional! You may be able to find your own “sake recommendation” at the sake comparison corner.
