(Higashinada-ku, Kobe), brewer of the Japanese sake “Fukuju,” will start selling “Fukuju Junmai-shu Eco Zero,” the world’s first sake with zero carbon dioxide (CO₂) emissions in the sake making process, on October 20, 2010.

Since its establishment in 1751, Kobe Shu-shin-kan has won many awards at sake competitions held in Japan and abroad. The company’s junmai ginjo sake has been served at official Nobel Prize events, and the company is a popular sake brewery with a high reputation overseas as well.

The new “Fukuju Junmai Sake Eco Zero” pursues an extremely natural taste. It is the world’s first sake that contributes to decarbonization (carbon neutrality) in the food supply chain by achieving zero carbon in the brewing process.

In addition to using carbon-neutral city gas, the brewery reduces energy consumption in the rice milling process by reducing the amount of rice polished. The company also aims to reduce the environmental impact of the rice milling process by reducing the amount of energy used in the milling process by reducing the polishing of the rice.
