Mail-order company Felissimo (Shinko-cho, Chuo-ku, Kobe) and Hakutsuru Sake Brewery (4 Sumiyoshiminamimachi, Higashinada-ku, Kobe) are currently exhibiting their first collaborative product, “Koji Quilt Shirts Made with Hakutsuru-san,” at the Hakutsuru Sake Brewery Museum.
Men’s “Koji Quilt Shirt Made with Mr. Hakutsuru” (men’s)
Inspired by the cloth used to make Daiginjo sake, this product was planned by Sunny Clouds, a brand launched by Felissimo in 1999 with the concept of “the best everyday wear.
Takako Taniguchi, Felissimo’s public relations manager, says, “The cloth used to control the temperature for growing high-quality koji is a firm, thick, and tightly woven fabric with a raised, natural texture, making it suitable as a winter item. We used it as a reference for the product name because it is draped over the koji lid (koji-buta) like a futon,” she says.
The fabric brand “Shuttle Notes” reproduces almost the same cloth used at Hakutsuru Sake Brewery. The back of the thick fabric is densely brushed to make the shirt easy to wear. Two blue lines have been added to the right cuff in the image of the “snake’s eye” pattern on the bottom of a sake cup, which is used to identify the color of sake when tasting sake. Sizes are available for women (7,590 yen) and men (8,690 yen) so that they can be worn in pairs.
In addition to these products, the Hakutsuru Sake Brewery Museum is currently displaying the cloth used in the koji mold room. During the period, visitors wearing these products will receive a free tasting of “Chotokusen Hakutsuru Tenku Fukurozuri Junmai Daiginjo” (with a cup bearing the Hakutsuru logo).
Mr. Taniguchi says, “We would like to make this first collaboration with a sake brewing company an opportunity for people who are interested in sake brewing and visit the Sake Brewery Museum to see this product.
The museum is open from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. (admission until 30 minutes before), closed from December 26 to January 4, 2023, through February 28.
