Awajiya, a bento box lunch shop headquartered in Higashinada-ku, Kobe, will start selling “Ganso Chanko Bento” supervised by the Japan Sumo Association on September 10.
The two companies began joint development at the end of last year, and took advantage of the increasing number of tourists visiting Japan as an opportunity to “communicate Japanese traditions not only to the public but also to visitors to Japan,” according to the company.
The product, which was developed through friendly competition in content, naming, design, etc., is said to be a confident work of Japan’s national sport tradition “Ozumo” and Japanese traditional food “Ekiben! This is a confident product that is truly Japanese!
The first series of “Ganso Chanko Bento” supervised by the Japan Sumo Association consists of two types: the “Oyakata Version,” a slightly rich sukiyaki-flavored beef bento, and the “Sekitori Version,” which uses chicken meat, a traditional “no-hands” dish used to bring luck in victory.
The products will be available at Awajiya stores and online from September 10.
<A word from the reporter>
