A music concert commemorating the 20th anniversary of the death of “Yasuo Kuwahara,” a mandolinist from Kobe City, will be held on November 4 at Uhara Hall, Higashinada Ward Cultural Center (Higashinada Ward, Kobe City). Tickets are now on sale at “teket (online sales)”.
The concert will consist of two stages: Stage 1 will feature performances by the winners of the “Japan Mandolin Solo Competition” and Stage 2 will showcase the chamber music and ensemble compositions of Yasuo Kuwahara.

Stage 1 will feature performances by three “virtuosos” (masters of music performance), Ms. Suzuna Takahashi, Ms. Ayori Fujikawa, and Mr. Takumi Mamiya, all of whom have won first prizes in the “Japan Mandolin Solo Competition. Stage 2 will also feature performances by mandolinists Takaaki Shibata and Ayako Shibata, who will perform chamber music composed by Yasuo Kuwahara and an ensemble piece by a special orchestra for this event only.

Born in Kobe City, Hyogo Prefecture in 1946, Kuwahara is a mandolinist and composer. After entering the Department of Business Administration at Kobe University of Commerce (now the Faculty of Business Administration at the University of Hyogo), he joined the university’s mandolin club and studied under Kinuko Hiruma. After graduating from the same university, he decided to pursue a career as a mandolin player and established “Kuwahara Mandolin Laboratory. Since then, he has been active as a composer and player both in Japan and abroad, and has organized the “Kobe International Music Festival” five times since 1992.
