Awajiya, a bento box lunch shop based in Higashinada-ku, Kobe, began selling “Kuromi Lunch,” an ekiben featuring Sanrio’s popular character Kuromi, at some Awajiya stores and other locations on December 13.
Awajiya has been in business for 120 years this year. In order to make the ekiben, a traditional Japanese food culture produced by the company, more popular, the company developed an ekiben in collaboration with the Sanrio character “Kuromi,” which is immensely popular among Japanese Generation Z and other Asian countries.
Inside the cute outer box of the completed “Kuromi Lunch” is a plastic bento container in the shape of “Kuromi. Inside, the lunch box is filled with Western-style dishes such as chicken rice, hamburger steak, and fried prawns, which are easy to eat for both children and adults.
The products are available at some Awajiya stores (Shin-Kobe, Tsuruhashi, Sannomiya Center-gai, Tarumi Station, and Lazona Kawasaki) as well as from the store’s online store.
<A word from the reporter:
The “#World Kuromization Project” is a plan to increase the number of Kuromies around the world who share the Kuromi spirit and act together with Kuromies. I would like to buy a cute Kuromi bento and participate in the #World Kuromization Project!
