We visited “Kawakami Coffee”, which opened in July, a 2-minute walk north from Hanshin Mikage Station. They roast and sell coffee beans. There is also a drink menu, and you can sit on a bench in the store and have a drink.
When you open the door, you can smell the nice aroma of coffee. The owner decided to open his own store after gaining experience at Yuge Roasting Shop in Nishinomiya. The owner’s goal is to “create a cycle of happiness through coffee.
The interior of the store, which was created based on the concept of simplicity, is a wonderful harmony of the gentleness of the wood and the power of the large roasting machine in the front.
Beans for sale are lined up at the counter for tasting. At the time of the interview, there were six types of coffee on display, but the number and brands vary depending on the time of year.
The fully hot-air roasting machine, made in Japan, is operated by a touch panel. The roasting is said to be automatic until the beans are done. Of course, it is fine-tuned daily according to temperature and humidity.
The roasting was just in progress, so we were able to observe the roasting process up close. When roasting is finished, the beans are automatically discharged and cooled.
Each bean has its characteristics written on it, and it was fun to try them one by one as I read! I always choose coffees with low acidity, but by tasting coffees with the same acidity characteristics in turn, I can understand the differences. I even found a coffee I like. It’s good that I can try before I buy so I don’t make any mistakes.
Daily coffee M size” 400 yen (tax included)
I had the “daily coffee. It was refreshing and had a very nice aftertaste. This is the M size, but the L size is almost double the amount and is a great value.
Customers started coming in one after another even before the store opened. The owner was politely answering questions and consultations from customers. He was so friendly and helpful that I even asked him to teach me about how to make a good cup of coffee. One thing he said…coffee should be brewed at 92 or 3 degrees Celsius, not 100 degrees hot. It is said that this prevents too much bitterness from coming out.
Gift” 3,100 yen (tax included)
Gifts are also available. A set of iced coffee and beans of your choice looks cute and makes a good gift for coffee lovers. Iced coffee alone can also be purchased for home use.
It is said that storing coffee in bean form is better than in powder form, as the aroma and flavor of the beans are less likely to be lost. I would like to take this opportunity to enjoy the aroma of freshly ground beans.
I hope you will find your favorite coffee at Kawakami Coffee as well. Why don’t you enjoy a different and special coffee time?
