What is “Dwelling Indication”?
Dwelling indication is a system to indicate addresses in an easy-to-understand manner to ensure that mail arrives at the desired location, replacing the method of indicating addresses using land numbers used in the real estate register.
In areas where residential indication has been implemented, addresses must be used according to residential indication.
In areas where residential indication is not implemented, the address should be indicated by using the lot number.
When a building is newly built or reconstructed in an area where residential indication is implemented, or when an entrance or exit is changed due to reconstruction, etc., notification of the residential indication is required. For details, please refer to the related information below.
Relationship between the residential indication and the lot number/house number in the real estate registration
Although the residential indication indicates the address by assigning a dwelling number to each building, there is no relationship with the lot number or house number used in the real estate registration.
The ward office is unable to answer questions regarding the relationship between the residential indication and the land and house numbers.
Please check by viewing the Blue Map (a map of residential areas with contrasting residential land numbers) available at the registry office (legal affairs bureau) or other such offices.
